In a coastal clean-up organised jointly by the Ula District Governorship, Ula Municipality, the Gökova Fishermen’s Association, the Harbour Master’s Office and Ula Vocational School, we visited the coves of the Gulf of Gökova one by one by boat, together with our university students.
We filled bag after bag with bottles, slippers, foam boxes and plastics washed up on the shores, and divers joined in with what they brought up from the seabed. We carried the collected waste to the harbour by boat.
As our District Governor Murat Ekinci put it: “This land, its soil, its sea, its air and its water are what we will leave to future generations.”
And in the words of our Mayor Mehmet Caner: “Let us care for our environment, join hands and leave a beautiful legacy for the future.”
Many thanks to all the institutions involved, to the Gökova Fishermen’s Association and its members who volunteered their boats without any profit motive, and to our young people and volunteers. We are glad to have you!
